Getting ready for FinOps X Europe? The FinOps Foundation wants to help you prepare
Calling all future attendees of the FinOps X Europe convention in Barcelona on November 11th!
To find the answers to all your event-related logistical questions, consider joining the preparation preview session on November 7th at 4:00 PM CET (Madrid time).
This 30-minute call should fill in the blanks regarding your arrival and departure times, the specifics of the venue, and anything else you need to know to have a successful event experience. There will be time for a Q&A at the end of the call, so come prepared with any special questions you think may not be covered during the rest of the session.
Similarly, AWS released a “Know Before You Go” blog preparing you for 2024 re:Invent
AWS re:Invent will be happening this year from December 2-6 in Las Vegas, Nevada. (Get your tickets here if you haven’t already.)
If you’re in charge of managing AWS costs for your company and are interested in attending re:Invent, you’ll want to check out the Know Before You Go page that AWS just released.
This post will give you a detailed rundown of who is speaking, when, and where during the conference so you can plan your time wisely before you head to Vegas. Offerings include everything from presentations, like “What’s new with AWS cost optimization,” to hands-on workshops teaching advanced cost allocation techniques, so there’s plenty of variety to choose from!
If you can make it to the FinOps Foundation networking event on December 3rd, you’ll be treated to an entire day of rubbing elbows with AWS and FinOps team leads from the product and engineering departments. This is a great opportunity to connect with FinOps industry leaders and participate in product and panel discussion groups.

Google’s committed use discount terms just got a little more flexible
Good news if you’re a fan of committed use discounts (CUDs) from Google.
Previously, these discounts were limited to one- or three-year commitments. Now, Google is offering flexible CUD term lengths anywhere from one to six years with the adoption of custom term length extensions.
If you’ve previously avoided a CUD based on the fact that your most predictable workloads — the ones best primed for committed use discounts, in other words — happen on a schedule outside of those limited one- or three-year pre-set packages, this should be a welcome change for you. You’ll still have to predict your optimal term and commit to the usage in advance, but now you can tailor your term length to fit your needs. (Tip: This is where in-depth unit economics and forecasting will be huge money-savers!)
If you already have a one-year or three-year commitment, you can read about extending your term length here. This resource explains all the details behind how the term extensions work and the windows of eligibility you’ll need to hit to adjust your term length.
Is Forecasting Not Your Strong Suit?
Have no fear. You don’t have to let the advantages of CUDs pass you by any longer.
Partner with CloudZero and get deep visibility into your company’s cloud costs. With this information, you’ll be able to identify when your workloads are most stable and predictable, and you’ll know what to budget for a discount program. From there, saving money is a cinch!
